Autumn At Last

That change in the air is finally here, the one that says summer really is over, the one that makes you put on socks in the morning before you go down for coffee, the one that says don’t blink — you might miss the Aspens change colors. The Aspens out my window are still mostly green, except for a small patch that’s suddenly yellow. The mornings are mostly foggy and damp, and we’ve started closing the bedroom windows at night. This weekend, over night temps will drop below freezing. I hear they’ve started making snow at A Basin.

It’s been windy since last night, and even the sound of the wind is more wintry now, a somehow more hollow rustling of leaves blending with the wind chimes on the front porch. The dog doesn’t like it much. She hurries a bit more when she’s outside now, and sometimes she whines a little when a stronger gust rattles in the chimney late at night. Hush, I tell her, and she does. Then she curls herself into a tighter comma, tucks her nose under her paws, and goes back to sleep.

This is the part of the year when the world (at least my little patch of it) is getting ready for bed. Seems like the perfect time to start a blog.
