A little sumpthin-sumpthin…

Daily, Photos / Thursday, April 2nd, 2020

Yesterday morning when I went downstairs for coffee, I found a little folded piece of paper in my mug (mercifully before pouring anything into it):

I pulled it out and looked at it and saw a photocopy of a squirrel-meme my 16yo loves. It’s the one with the overweight squirrel looking like it’s patting its belly as if to say, “I could use a little something… something sweet maybe….”

She showed us this meme a while ago and now whenever one of us is looking for dessert, or any snack really, we all pat our bellies and say, “I could use a little sumpthin’ sumpthin’….”

Sometime in the middle of night, she cut up dozens of little photocopies of this squirrel and taped them to just about every imaginable surface in the kitchen and lower hall of the house. For April Fool’s Day. So I spent the early morning on April 1st moving around my kitchen chuckling every time I came across one of these squirrels. My husband came down a few minutes after me and heard me and asked what was so funny, so I told him to go check the hall bathroom:

and then the pantry:

and then the fridge:

and then I asked him to get me a spoon from the drawer:

and then to just look around the kitchen a little:

As far as April Fool’s jokes go, it wasn’t any kind of earth-shattering side-splitting moment, but it felt good to start the day laughing a little. As the day progressed, we found more and more of them all over the place. I haven’t yet gotten rid of all of them. And I tacked one up on my bulletin board in my office where I can glance up at it every so often during these weird days and smile at this sweet little sumpthin-sumpthin I can keep forever.
